Proposed Changes to PSAAPG Constitution and By-Laws

The PSAAPG Executive Committee recommends the following changes be made to the Constitution and By-Laws. Please vote to ACCEPT or REJECT these changes by filling in the ballot box that follows. The complete text of these proposed changes is presented below the ballot box.

Summary of Proposed Changes:

1) Require the President-Elect and President of PSAAPG to be members of AAPG.

2) Replace the member class "Non-member Subscribers" with "Associate Members",
and define what an Associate Member is.

3) Replace the "Committee on Directories" with a "Committee on Communication and Technology",
and define the function of this new Committee.


The complete text of the proposed changes to the PSAAPG Constitution and By-Laws are shown below in red.

CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS

SECTION 4.
President-Elect and President shall be Active Members of AAPG and will facilitate communication between PSAAPG and AAPG through membership on AAPG committees and other activities. Other officers are encouraged but not required to be Active Members of AAPG.

BY-LAWS

ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1. MEMBERSHIP
Membership in PSAAPG shall consist of the following classifications:
a) Active Members
b) Honorary Members
c) Associate Members Non-member Subscribers

SECTION 2. ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP
Every candidate for admission as a Member shall submit an application on an application form authorized by the Executive Committee and signed by the applicant. The Membership Chair Executive Committee shall review the application form and select the appropriate classification of membership. be the sole judge of the eligibility of the applicant for membership and the adequacy of the applicant’s qualifications. If the Executive Committee, after due consideration, judges that the applicant’s qualifications meet the requirements of the Constitution and these By-laws, the committee shall cause to be published in the Newsletter or by other suitable means, the applicant’s name. Any member, of whatever classification, who resigns, or who forfeits membership for nonpayment of dues, except for Honorary Members, ceases to have any rights in PSAAPG.

SECTION 5. DEFINITION OF TERM: "ASSOCIATE MEMBER NON-MEMBER SUBSCRIBERS"
Other persons, not qualified to be Active Members of PSAAPG may join and receive PSAAPG’s publication “Pacific Petroleum Geologist Newsletter”. Non-member subscribers shall not have the right to vote or hold office, but may otherwise participate in the activities of PSAAPG. Any person not qualified for active membership who is interested in the activities of the PSAAPG. Associate Members shall not have the right to vote or hold office, but may otherwise participate in the activities of PSAAPG.

ARTICLE IV. COMMITTEES

SECTION 1. STANDING COMMITTEES
PSAAPG shall establish and maintain the following standing committees:
a) Committee on Finance
b) Committee on Membership
c) Committee on Publications
d) Committee on Communication and Technology Directories
e) Committee on Honors and Awards
f) Committee on Conventions

SECTION 6. COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY DIRECTORIES
The primary function of the Committee on Directories shall be to update the membership directory of the Pacific Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists as directed by the Executive Committee. Compilation of the Directory shall be coordinated with the Pacific Coast Section Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Pacific Section Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) and it shall be formally published as mutually agreed upon. The primary function of the Committee on Communication and Technology shall be to develop new ways to communicate with Members using latest technologies. Management of the PSAAPG website and similar communication platforms shall be guided by the Committee with the oversite of the Executive Committee.
